If You Love Chocolate Cake, Don’t Follow A Lemon Cake Recipe!

Suppose someone gives you a cake recipe and tells you to follow it. They say that if you do, you’ll end up with a great cake. They don’t ask you what cake you want but they assure you that the recipe has been followed by thousands and you should trust them and follow it too. (If you don’t bake cakes, humour me and follow along.)

So you blindly follow it exactly, and you do everything you are supposed to do according to the recipe. And then, when the cake is baked, you excitingly take a big mouthful. You as quickly spit it out. It’s lemon cake and you absolutely hate lemons. You’ve made a lemon! (Could not help myself with saying this. 🙂

====

Of course, in real life, this scenario would not happen.

Before wasting your time and money making that cake, at the very least, you’d ask a few questions. For example: “What cake am I making?“, “Will I like it?” “Will my friends and family like it?” Simple, obvious, logical questions.

And if you’re going to bake a cake and you really, really like chocolate cake, you’ll make a yummy, indulgent chocolate cake instead. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Chocolate cake with lots of cream and strawberries and raspberries on top. Yummmmmm.

As I mentioned, this scenario would not happen with respect to baking a cake, yet virtually all of us let this happen to us with respect to the recipe we ‘blindly’ follow for living our life.

I blindly followed the ‘supposed- to-do’ recipe for being successful. I was an A student at school, and I’m in theory quite bright, but it never occurred to me to question the recipe. I never questioned whether I’d love the life I’d end up with and BE happy. Would it be a lemon or a chocolate life?

Fortunately, eight years ago I realised my life was a lemon – particularly with respect to how little time I had to spend with the love of my life, my Mike. Thankfully I then made the decision to follow a recipe for a chocolate life instead.

It’s never too late to change your life recipe and start creating a chocolate cake life (whatever that looks like for you.)

You really can have a HAPPY (chocolate)  life.
