In a Moment #2

In a Moment, Your Whole Life Can Change

After talking about it for years and years, in May 2009 Mike and I finally moved up to Queensland to live the life we’d always wanted – the life we’d put off to ‘someday.’

Three years and six months later, Mike had a massive seizure and was diagnosed with brain cancer.

In that moment, both our lives changed for ever.

Knowing you are going to die changes everything. EVERYTHING.

**** In a Moment, What You Took for Granted is No Longer There ****

I remember the first day Mike got out of hospital – after effectively being pronounced dead but then he did a comeback- we went for a walk along the beach front. For Mike, it was if he was seeing everything for the first time: the sky, the clouds, the trees, the sea, the sand. He was soooooooooo excited. For a moment he thought he’d never see any of this again.

From then on, we both saw things with different eyes. We experienced everything differently. We experienced each other differently.

Mike’s celebration service was exactly 12 months after his seizure.

It would have been great to have ‘read our story’ years before, and had this realisation years before, but I’m still grateful that Mike and I had those years living the life we’d always wanted and our last year together. That last year was, believe it or not, the most special….. and one of the happiest.

I’m hoping my story inspires you to start living the life you’ve always wanted and be as happy as you can be. Just take baby steps.

A powerful baby step is to experience everything and everyone from the perspective you might die tomorrow.
